We are now well into the Zettabyte (ZB) era. By 2020, data sizes will reach 44ZB, said IDC’s “Digital Universe” study.[1] While new paradigms like Internet of Thing (IoT) will push data volumes higher, it will also mean that businesses without proper data management will drown in their data.

One reason is that data storage is no longer centralized. It exists across a multitude of locations, from corporate disks through to storage-as-a-service providers like Dropbox. This fragmentation of data sets makes it difficult to get to the real "truth".

Massive data volumes are also creating other problems. The IDC study noted that over 80% of data is now unstructured. Another IDC report “The Copy Data Problem[2] estimate that 60% of stored files are copies of originals and add no additional value while using up precious storage space.

Data management is becoming complicated. Thanks to the myriad of management tools that come with point solutions that seldom integrate well with each other, IT teams are struggling to optimize management.

These factors impact a company's ability to optimize data management for profitability. It reduces the visibility of your data across the enterprise, making it difficult to properly manage, and increasing the growth of "dark data" that IT may not know about—after all, you cannot control what you cannot see.

It also makes it difficult to meet increasingly clinical regulatory needs. It means a business needs to spend more money and employ more professionals to ensure that they don’t run afoul of any legislations or laws.

Lastly, in the absence of clear data policies, data-related costs are mushrooming. Different lines of businesses and employees will keep data, increasing risks and storage costs. Unclear data dependencies and non-standardized regulatory requirements will also mean IT will be reluctant to delete files.

All these will reduce productivity, impact innovation and reduce competitiveness.

A New Vision

Time for a rethink! The first step is to stop looking at data as an IT concern. Rather it should be a strategic business asset.

To achieve this, you need insight, availability, and protection. Insight allows you to identify and classify vast swathes of files. An exhaustive classification can help you to understand which files need to be retained, where confidential data lie, and how one file is dependent on others.

Availability is important as data is now consumed in near real-time. Without reliably moving and orchestrating workloads in a multi-vendor and multi-cloud environment, businesses cannot optimize their operations. It also impacts employee productivity and responsiveness to customer demands.

Data protection is equally vital. You need a scalable and efficient backup and recovery system that does not impact performance of the production environment. Without one, a single outage can permanently derail your business ambitions.

These are some of the reasons why enterprises are now choosing Veritas 360 Enterprise Data Management solution.

Bits and Bytes

Veritas 360 Enterprise Data Management solution is a product of the company’s strong storage management and security heritage. It offers the insight, availability and protection to meet today’s data management needs.

At the heart of the solution lies NetBackup 8.0. It unifies data protection across on-premise and cloud environments with enterprise-ready scalability, performance and workload integration. Veritas 360 Enterprise Data Management extends unified data protection capability so that businesses can use data to increase IT efficiency, streamline operations and improve their value proposition.

Businesses will see immediate benefits upon deployment. It will enhance current data environments by offering global data visibility, simplify business resilience and integrate copy data management. Enterprises will also profit from the near 100% backup and recovery success rate of their data regardless of location.

“Veritas 360 Enterprise Data Management solution, powered by NetBackup 8.0, is the foundation of our vision for a comprehensive range of solutions to help enterprises manage their growing data needs. Veritas is committed to deliver a unified enterprise data management solution that solves customers’ challenges to address the complexity of hybrid cloud and the realities of digital business,” said Benjamin Kwok, Managing Director, Veritas Hong Kong and Taiwan.

3 Unique Advantages

Three unique advantages--global data visibility, predictable resiliency, and integrated copy data management--underpin the promise of Veritas 360 Enterprise Data Management.

The direct integration between NetBackup 8.0 and Veritas Information Map provides an intuitive, graphical view of backups. Business can gain actionable intelligence from existing backup data, improve visibility into the data environment and reclaim primary storage within a day.

The integration of Veritas Resiliency Platform with NetBackup 8.0 delivers predictability to all resiliency operations. It includes workload migration, failover, failback, data protection and non-disruptive recovery testing. The tight integration improves application availability across complex, multi-platform and multi-vendor private, public and hybrid cloud environments.

With Veritas Velocity now integrated with NetBackup 8.0, a business can have rapid, on-demand self-service access to data without having to create, store and maintain physical copies or resource dependencies. By instantly provisioning virtual copies of the production data, the solution reduces physical storage costs and business risks.

Conclusion

Businesses need to start getting back control of their data storage environments. To achieve this, they need to start looking at their data as a strategic business asset

“Veritas 360 Enterprise Data Management offers businesses the chance to rein in storage growth in today’s multi-vendor and multi-cloud environment. It also works with existing platforms, protecting current IT investment and improving overall return on investment,” said Kwok. “More importantly, it can help to accelerate digital transformation and establish a reliable foundation for the future.”
