The ICDPPC is the annual premier global forum for over three decades. Every year it brings together around 600 professionals and representatives from the data protection authorities and the related trades and industries of every continent. With the theme “Connecting West with East in Protecting and Respecting Data Privacy”, an international panel of distinguished speakers has been lined up for this year’s Conference to address data protection and privacy issues, covering data protection in Asia, notice and consent, cross-border data transfer as well as challenges of new technology.

Open session highlights (28 & 29 September 2017):

· Data Protection in Asia – privacy culture and data protection regulations in different Asian countries, the differences in culture towards privacy between the East and the West

· Notice and Consent – possible solutions or alternatives to notice and consent, and progressive way forward for data users / controllers and data protection authorities

· Cross-border Data Transfer – APEC cross-border privacy rules, data transfer mechanisms under EU’s GDPR, data localisation

· Challenges of New Technology – Ethics by design in AI, smart regulation in digital economy, privacy and cybersecurity, digital identity management, privacy and encryption, and human rights defenders
