Cloud engineers, data warehousing specialists and network managers are the technology jobs in Hong Kong with the fastest growing salaries, according to Robert Half Hong Kong.
Cloud engineers have seen a year-on-year salary growth of 16.2%, to the point that professionals in this field can expect a minimum annual salary of HK$360,000 and a maximum salary of HK$1 million, the recruitment company's latest Salary Guide indicates.
Demand for cloud engineers is being driven by the continued adoption of cloud technology in the enterprise as well as the emergence of big data.
This latter trend is also prompting strong demand for data warehousing specialists, which has seen salary growth of 14.5% year-on-year to between HK$380,000 and HK$1.2 million.
Skilled network managers have meanwhile seen salary increase 14.3% to between HK$400,000 and HK$800,000.
Overall, the IT sector is expected to see an average salary growth rate of 4.3%. The report also indicates that 73% of Hong Kong technology professionals believe they are being paid a fair salary, but 98% would move jobs for a higher salary if they felt they were not being paid fairly.
“A booming technology market is driving demand for skilled IT professionals. After a slight downturn in tourism, businesses are rebounding and allocating budget to business transformation and customer experience projects,” Robert Half Hong Kong managing director Adam Johnston said.
“Companies are becoming more innovative in attracting customers through digitization, big data and data analytics. As companies invest in the cloud, open source, and performance tools such as DevOp and Agile, candidates with specialist skills in these areas are in high demand.”
He said with skills shortage prevalent across the technology sector, companies need to be providing enticing salaries in order to attract and retain qualified talent.
