HKT revenue falls 5% during 1H17

HKT group managing director Alex ArenaHKT has reported a 5% decline in total reveneu to HK$15.65 billion for the first six months of 2017.

Meanwhile, Ebitda for the period grew 2% year-on-year to HK$5.97 billion as a result of enhancements of operating efficiency across both the company's mobile and telecommunications services businesses. The operator also reported a 3% increase of profit attributable to holders of Share Stapled Units to HK$2,389 million.

“Despite facing keen competition, we would continue to drive growth leveraging on our leadership position in the market as well as delivery of innovative products and services,” HKT group managing director Alex Arena said.

“With the advent of more and more bandwidth heavy applications, we launched in July this year the 4x1000M Multi-Use Broadband Service to further enhance our broadband business. On the mobile front, the upgrade to 1Gbps speed which is being introduced progressively at selected high traffic locations is a solid step forward to 5G.”

The new 1Gbps IP radio access network (IP-RAN) based 1Gbps mobile network will initially be launched in high-traffic areas and will be progressively extend the service to more areas as more compatible devices reach the market.

The upgraded network is based on fiber IP backbone infrastructure up to 10Gbps per site with less than 1 millisecond network latency.
